This
image is a screen shot of a Storyspace
file-- embellished in Photoshop with markers to reveal more of the links and
connections that Steve and I wanted to illustrate to our students. The essence
of hypertext is its multilinear capabilities and we believe strongly that when
learning is approached in this fashion, thinking, knowing, and indeed living
is altered. Like
the flexible nature of bulletin board postings, the use of Post-It notes on
the walls around a computer and desk in an office cubicle, or even a cluttered
display of magnets, coupons, photographs and telephone numbers on a family refrigerator,
our "Racing Thoughts" computer hypertext changes and is remade each
time it is presented and read.
